We’re still searching for evidence to prove that Game of Thrones hasn’t lost Jaime Lannister just yet, and this piece might help confirm that.
Yours truly has made it pretty clear about where she stands on the Great Is Jaime Lannister Dead Debate of 2017, Game of Thrones fans. I haven’t staked anything on it, but I do have (spoiler-based) evidence that I used to inform my prediction that he’s not actually dead. Just so we all know where I’m coming from before we start speculating on this “Beautiful Death” piece by Robert Ball from the Making Game of Thrones blog.
Granted, one has to wonder if HBO told Ball that he couldn’t create anything based on Jaime Lannister just yet, so as to preserve the tension. That is a strong counterpoint.
Before we get any further into that, though, let’s at least appreciate the art:
Ball confirmed that the wing-like flames in the top portion of the piece are indeed intentional:
"“I wanted to somehow combine the Lannister helmet design with the shape of Drogon as he swoops down…”"
It still has some vaguely Batman: Arkham Knight vibes to it, but dragons are cooler than bats at this point in time. Also, check out those bits in front of the soldier’s mouth. Are those skin bits or blood? Either way, it’s nasty.
Ball did briefly mention Jaime, though, mentioning “Jaime sinking into the depths of the river” in his breakdown of the episode. It was, in fact, the first thing he mentioned. Yet he didn’t create a piece of art for that? Again, the intention might be for HBO to keep it all secret, but then why let Ball mention Jaime at all to prompt these questions?

The primary way to know for sure whether or not this piece is a sign is to watch “Eastwatch” this Sunday, Aug. 13 … and, of course, to keep checking on Culturess for the latest from Game of Thrones.
