LeakyCon: The Harry Potter convention you don’t want to miss

LeakyCon has been running Harry Potter conventions since 2011. But what makes them truly special?

Mischief Management is known for their LeakyCons since 2011. Each year they’ve put on a convention of different sorts, some have been Game of Thrones, some are Broadway, but they’re most heavily known for their Harry Potter convention, LeakyCon.

For awhile, this convention stayed inside America, going from various big city to big city, but always staying inside the mainland. This year, for their 19 years later celebration, they’re going to Dublin, Ireland to celebrate and put on what is to be their biggest convention yet.

Already, they’ve announced celebrities such as Evanna Lynch, Alfred Enoch, but today they announced their most exciting guest. Dan Folger, who played everyone’s favorite No-Maj from Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Jacob Kowalski, will be joining the fun in Ireland.

As someone who has gone to these conventions for years, both LeakyCon and GeekyCon (a con just for everyone), it’s amazing to see my favorite convention, my favorite group of people go on to such huge things. Nowhere in 2011 did I ever think that LeakyCon would be set in Ireland, and let alone have so many people dropping everything to go to a new country to be with their Harry Potter friends!

How Mischief Management does it

I’ve been with this Mischief Management as a fan and as a volunteer, and they make sure that no matter how big the convention gets, there’s a feeling of community. That’s what Harry Potter’s all about, right? It’s about a community of people who don’t 100% fit in, coming together and nerding out.

The fact that Mischief Management has made such a following that so many people go to every convention every year, no matter where, is a testament to how great they are. It isn’t a convention where you feel like you’re going to suffocate from the people. The people are fun to be around, and it’s an experience that you never want to end.

Melissa Anelli, the woman behind it all.

Melissa Anelli, the woman at the helm of all of the magic that happens at all of these conventions, is an honorary wizard. She’s brought thousands of people together from different walks of life based on one thing. Whether it’s Geekiness, or Broadway, or Game of Thrones — but especially Harry Potter, people will follow her off a cliff. Her staff is more loyal than any staff I know.

Her hard work is what made Dublin, Ireland happen. A huge convention in a new country is insane, but if anyone can do it, the people at MM can. This might be the first LeakyCon I can’t go to, but I know it’s going to be an insane time.
