“Lucky Penny,” the latest single from JD McPherson, has everything you’d want for a song to get stuck in your head. Come take a listen!

JD McPherson has always had the vintage feel to his music. He somehow manages to bring it with a new-age twist that we just can’t get enough of.

Every new release of his has us excited as all get-out. With the announcement of a brand new album in October and an accompanying single, this week just got so much better.

“Lucky Penny” debuted over at NPR, and you can listen to it in the fantastically vintage video below:

If you’re unfamiliar with JD McPherson’s music, take a listen. I found myself hooked when I got a newsletter from CD Baby back in 2011. It advertised him as channeling Little Richard and James Brown.

His first album, Signs and Signifiers, sounds like it’s straight out of the 1950s. Looking for a good pick out of those twelve tracks? Check out “North Side Gal” or “Dimes For Nickels.

His second album, Let the Good Times Roll, takes a step away from the 1950s vibe but keeps that rocking sound. Check out “Head Over Heels” or “Bossy” or “Let the Good Times Roll”… or basically any track.

This third album, Undivided Heart & Soul, already sounds fantastic from just this one song. NPR has some fun facts about the recording:

"Undivided Heart & Soul was recorded in Nashville’s RCA Studio B, the historic home of Chet Atkins, the Everly Brothers and the Nashville Sound. McPherson and his band recorded there at night – the studio hosts museum tours during the day – and had to clear out by 4 a.m."

That’s some dedication—and some names that should not surprise. We’re excited to see what McPherson’s new album brings. So far, he has yet to disappoint.
