Dany brings the heat to the Lannister army

The Dothraki have never crossed the Narrow Sea. It’s only appropriate that just after all the gold of Highgarden is in King’s Landing that the barbarian horde of horse riders and screamers smash through lines of unprepared Lannister troops. The scene as a whole is epic, from Bronn’s super attuned ear for an approaching threat to Jaime’s ability to narrowly escape death (Or maybe not? More on that later) to Dany’s shameless dragontop powerplay to a whole lot of CGI horse violence we could only watch through the slats in the fingers covering our eyes.

The whole battle was a breathless clash between two sides that truthfully each have our allegiance as fans, making the experience of watching everything go down especially stressful. We were torn between cheering for Dany and Drogon as they turned the lines of Lannister soldiers into crispy ashes and urging Jaime and Bronn to be careful in the line of Dothraki sickle fire or, you know, actual dragon fire.

The battle also gives us a glimpse into a convergence of some principal characters we haven’t seen together before; from Bronn firing steel bolts to Jaime charging at Dany to Tyrion wishing he hadn’t from afar, all the major players are overlapping as the season is more than halfway over. Sorry. “Fewer.”
