Theon runs into Jon
Theon: (act cool, act cool, act cool)
Jon…
Jon: (looking at him like “You’re even more dead that I was”) Here’s a choke.
The two wards of Lord Stark, one a captive and one a bastard, have found themselves in different places from when last they met. Jon has died, and Theon has, on multiple occasions, wished he was dead. Much like the reunion between the Stark sisters, the two characters who are meeting in this scene are not the same people they were the last time we saw them together. Unlike the Stark siblings’ warm and mostly fuzzy reunion, though, Jon and Theon aren’t meeting on the best terms. Jon threatens Theon immediately upon recognizing him (is getting rough with people Jon Snow’s new thing? Does being King in the North make dudes more prone to starting fights?), but it’s Theon’s onetime kindness to Sansa in that whole Ramsay period that saves him from Jon’s wrath.
And it’s that still glowing ember of humanity deep within Theon that’s driven him to seek out Dragonstone and Daenerys’ assistance in the first place. It just may take a while for Jon to recognize it.
Still, the men’s shared respect for the now-acting ruler and Queen in the North has put Theon and Jon on the same side once more. Theon mentions rescuing his sister, so now we’re just waiting to see how he makes up for the fact that everyone he used to know just straight up hates him.
