Doctor Who and Mr. Men mash-up books exist and they are too cute

A series of children’s books combines Doctor Who with the beloved Mr. Men series and they’re so adorable they have to be seen to be believed.

Everyone remembers the classic Mr. Men and Little Miss books by children’s author and illustrator Roger Hargreaves. (The series features such gems as Little Miss Bossy and Mr. Tickle.) Well now if you’re a Doctor Who fan, you can get Hargreaves-style stories featuring each of your favorite Doctors. And they are every bit as cute as you might expect.

Since Hargreaves’ death in 1988, his son Adam has taken over the world he created. And the younger Hargreaves has continued to expand it, adding new characters to his father’s universe. In 2017, he even added all of time and space, partnering to create a series of Doctor Who mash-up books. The illustrations in each of the books follow Hargreaves’ famous style. Which leads to some of the most entertaining—and generally delightful—Doctor Who mash-up art you’ll see. In them, each Doctor gets his own signature look, complete with all the obvious accessories, like scarves, fezzes, or hairstyles with prominent widows’ peaks.

A new quartet of these Doctor Who books will debut on August 29, featuring Doctor Ninth, Doctor Eighth, Doctor Second and Doctor Seventh.

You can see an exclusive preview of the new Ninth Doctor adventure over at the Radio Times. And it not only features the Ninth Doctor, but appearances by his companions Rose and Captain Jack Harkness. Everyone looks incredibly adorable as they battle Autons, stockpile cabbages (???) and save the day.

(Let’s put it this way: I’m way too old for these books, and I don’t have kids, and I’m still buying all of these immediately. Because they’re too darn cute.)

This release marks the second set of Doctor Who and Mr. Men mash-up books out this year. But four other mash-up stories already exist and you can buy them right now! Released earlier in 2017, they focus on a different set of Doctors. This inaugural group included Doctor First, Doctor Fourth, Doctor Eleventh and Doctor Twelfth.

If you want a better look at what these Hargreaves-style stories are like, this short will definitely help. An animated version of the Doctor Twelfth story, it follows Twelve as he chases Missy through time on a jewel heist. Bonus: The story’s narrator is Michelle Gomez, who actually played Missy on the show. (And it’s pretty perfect, to boot.)

That mini-story would actually make a fairly decent episode, right?

Next: The Doctor Who Christmas special almost didn’t happen this year

The only question still worth asking? When do we get Mr. Men mash-ups featuring the rest of the Doctors? Because you know that Doctor Third will be awesome.
