Washington: Singles

The movie Singles captured the grunge scene. The ’90s music, clothing, and culture took over pop culture at the time. From Nirvana’s haunting lyrics to flannel everything, grunge couldn’t be avoided. The movie Singles brought the Seattle grunge scene to people who had never stepped foot in Seattle.

While some people may not remember the 1992 movie, the movie soundtrack was extremely popular. With the untimely passing of Chris Cornell, the soundtrack and the music genre has been revisited. For fans looking to recapture a part of their youth, a Singles-inspired tour of Washington and Seattle could make them feel young again.

One of the most famous areas in Seattle is the Pike Place Market Historic District. Many people are familiar with the fish mongers and the flying fish, but the area is more than just catching fish. For Singles fans, The Virginia Inn was featured in the movie. While the characters Steve and Linda only had water, the restaurant serves more than just a free beverage. The causal restaurant is known for its fish dishes. Also, it has a wide selection of beers on tap.

While some locations from the movie aren’t in existence anymore, a few Instagram worthy locales are still available. The bench with the statue of the resting man is still located in a small park at the corner of 4th and Lenora. Live concert venues, Central Tavern and El Corazon are still open too.

Grab some flannel and a pair of Doc Martens for a Singles-inspired trip through Seattle.
