New York: Sex and the City

Maybe it was the shoes or it could have been the Sunday brunches, but I wanted to be part of Carry Bradshaw’s life. First, a television show then movie, Sex and the City was, and still is, one of my favorite shows. Carrie, Samantha, Miranda, and Charlotte lived a fabulous New York life. While it was fictional, I still dreamed of that unrealistic lifestyle.

So many famous New York City landmarks were featured in the first Sex and the City movie. I’m sure some tour group still offers a SATC tour package around the city. Instead of focusing on the shopping or apartments, let’s look at some iconic New York landmarks from the movie.

Carrie and Big’s wedding ceremony was set for the New York Public Library. The New York Public Library has four locations, but the most famous location is the Bryant Park Manhattan location. Located on Fifth Avenue, the building is a National Historic Landmark. The library has been featured in many movies including Breakfast at Tiffany’s, The Thomas Crown Affair (the museum was really the library), and Ghostbusters.

Central Park is a natural oasis in the heart of New York City. Created by Frederick Law Olmsted and architect Calvert Vaux, Central Park is considered the most visited park in the United States. From tourists to city residents, Central Park is always busy.

The Ladies Pavilion in Central Park is featured in Sex and the City. Carrie and Miranda reconcile there. The current location inside the park by the lake wasn’t the original location. The ornate, iron structure was previously a trolley stop. Now, the Ladies Pavilion is a popular for weddings, special events, and photo opportunities.
