South Carolina: The Notebook

For many women, Nicholas Sparks’  books epitomize the ideal romantic relationship. While the books may offer hours of diversion, many of the locations in his books are based in reality. The Notebook, the movie adaptation of the novel, features several South Carolina locations. While you may be able to find a location from the movie, the romantic moment isn’t necessarily included.

Charleston is a filled with historical venues. The William Aiken House was the location for The Notebook’s wedding dress scene. This historic home was built in 1810. Owned by the Aiken family, it housed the Southern Railway. Today, the historic home is a popular wedding location. While quite pricey, a bride dreaming of a Notebook wedding might be willing to deal with the cost.

When Noah and Allie go to the movies, the old school theater is a former South Carolina theater. The American Theater is located at 446 King St. in Charleston. Originally opened in the 1940s, the theater is an art deco inspired location. While no longer a movie theater, the space is open for private events. An added bonus to having an event here is getting your name on the marquee.

Truthfully, a stroll through the historic King Street in Charleston will have Notebook fans reminiscing about the romantic movie. From the stoplights to Southern plantations, the movie’s Charleston references are strong. Fans can even enjoy a meal at High Cotton, the restaurant where Allie eats with her fiancé. While the city may not be as quaint as the movie itself, Charleston can cast a romantic glow on Notebook fans.
