Vermont – Beetlejuice

Say his name three times and he will appear. Beetlejuice has become a favorite movie over the years. While the movie was supposed to be Connecticut, the movie was filmed in East Corinth, Vermont.

Trying to avoid a dog, Adam and Jane drive off a bridge to their death. But death doesn’t stop them from enjoying their idyllic home. Unfortunately, their picture perfect New England house is sold to a New York family. After the new family redecorates, Jane and Adam try to scare the new owners. Unfortunately, the couple isn’t the super scary type. The couple enlists the help from Beetlejuice and chaos ensues.

The town of East Corinth, Vermont was where many of the movie’s scenes were shot. The small Vermont town is quite picturesque. The rolling hills, fall foliage, and small town stores worked well with the movie plot. The movie is said to feature the post office, doctor’s office, and library. While the town website doesn’t reference the movie, many fans still visit the area.

Some of the movie scenes were created specifically for filming. According to Atlas Obsura, the bridge scene is an actual bridge in Corinth. The bridge was modified to become covered. But, the bridge can be found at “Chicken Farm Road, close to where the street intersects with Village Road.” The cover from the movie was removed and the bridge was restored to its original appearance.

The Beetlejuice house was never a real house. The building was created specifically for the movie. Actually, the film crew just built the outside of the building. All the actual rooms were part of a sound stage. While the “house” isn’t there, fans can go to the hill where the house was. According to Atlas Obsura, the area “can be found off of Jewell Lane, which is basically the driveway to the farm on which the hill stands.”
