New Jersey: Friday the 13th

The original Friday the 13th Movie was filmed entirely in New Jersey.

The 1980 horror filmed featured Kevin Bacon. A group of teenagers go to Camp Crystal Lake to prepare for a summer camp. Years earlier, the camp had an unfortunate drowning death. As the movie progresses, more people meet their untimely deaths.

While there isn’t a Camp Crystal Lake, the movie did use an actual camp site for filming. No-Be-Bo-Sco is a Boy Scout Camp site. The camp area has been open since the late 1920s. While the site was used for filming, the Boy Scout Camp is private and not open to the public.

Due to fan demand, the campgrounds were opened to the public for tours. On Friday, May 13, 2011; Friday, Sept. 13, 2013; and Friday, Nov. 13, 2015 the camp opened for special Friday the 13th tours. Tickets were priced at $100 and sold out in minutes. To learn when the next tour will be announced, subscribe to the tour mailing list.

For an easy to find Friday the 13th movie location, go to the Blairstown Diner. This restaurant is the actual diner from the diner scene in the movie. A classic New Jersey diner, this restaurant is located at 186 State Route 94 in Blairstown. The nostalgic looking eatery offers inexpensive, American food. It’s open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Don’t expect super fancy food, but burgers and sandwiches are a good choice.
