The Sandlot, from the movie trailer
Utah: The Sandlot
The story about a group of boys who play a pick-up baseball game has stood the test of time. The infamous line “You’re killing me, Smalls” is everywhere. The movie, The Sandlot, was filmed in Salt Lake City, Utah.
This classic coming of age film has really resonated with many people. While not everyone had a Babe Ruth baseball, many kids grew up with a close group of friends who bonded over a sport. This film has many life lessons for all ages.
While the movie was filmed in Salt Lake City, Utah, the locations were mostly privately owned locations. Many local homes were used as the kids’ homes. Some of the homes still look the same today.
The actual “sandlot” is a real, private baseball field in Salt Lake City. Since this location is private property, the owner may not want you to stop for a game. But, you can drive by and take a look. Although people say that the area doesn’t look like a baseball field.
When the kids weren’t playing baseball, the community pool was their hangout. The pool was home to the infamous “drowning” scene with the lifeguard Wendy Peffercorn. The pool is the Lorin Farr Park Pool in Ogden, Utah. This swimming pool is open to the public. An Olympic size pool, a smaller pool ,and some slides are located together. Open Memorial Day through Labor Day, the pool hours vary.
