Indiana: Rudy

Everyone chant it together: Rudy!! The heartwarming, true story of Daniel “Rudy” Ruettiger is more than just a football movie. Of course, the inspirational tale of a walk-on football player who never gave up is a perfect movie story. Rudy is the only Norte Dame player carried off the field on his teammates shoulders. The movie, and true story, showcase the picturesque Notre Dame campus and the South Bend, Indiana area.

Notre Dame is a prestigious private Catholic university. Considered a symbol of the university, and often associated with the school, is the Golden Dome. The Golden Dome sits on top of the university’s Main Building.

Other important university landmarks are the Basilica of the Sacred Heart. The French Revival church is visually impressive with its bell tower and grand architecture. Located near the Basilica is the Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes. This replica from Lourdes is very special to students and alumni as a place of prayer and meditation.

The Norte Dame football stadium is revered by college football fans and those associated with the university. This football stadium was built in 1930 and has been expanded and remodeled over the years. From the stands, people can see Norte Dame landmarks and the iconic Touchdown Jesus. Touchdown Jesus is actually a mural by Millard Sheets, called “The Word of Life.” This mural looks over the field and many people believe it looks as if Jesus is raising his arms to signal a touchdown.

The city of South Bend is closely tied to the university. Football game days can be quite busy. South Bend is conveniently located off the Indiana Toll Road, I-80-90.
