The fame of Billie Lourd has always been in the shadow of her famous mother and grandmother but now, Billie is breaking out into her own.
Ever since the death of Carrie Fisher, everyone has been looking to Billie Lourd for the next step in her life. The daughter of Fisher (meaning the granddaughter of Debbie Reynolds) has definitely been making a name for herself over the last few years. But still, many have turned their eyes on her to see what she had to say about the sudden passing of her mother and grandmother.
In a recent interview with Town and Country, Billie talked with her American Horror Story co-star Sarah Paulson about all things about her life as well as her relationship with her late mother.
"Oh, it’s so important. If life’s not funny, then it’s just true—and that would be unacceptable. Even when she died, that was what got me through that whole thing. When Debbie died the next day, I could just picture her saying, “Well, she’s upstaging me once again, of course—she had to.”"
What’s extremely sweet about this is that that is a very famous Carrie Fisher quote. A true hero to many of us (myself included), Carrie was always the first to laugh at herself and her life. She didn’t let anyone feel pity for her.
The interview is extremely sweet, just Billie and Sarah having an earnest conversation and giving us a look into this side of the Reynolds/Fisher/Lourd family that we didn’t know before. And for someone who loves Carrie as much as I do, it was a wonderful interview to read.
But what’s nice is that Billie finally just gets to be Billie.
"I’ve always kind of lived in their shadows, and now is the first time in my life when I get to own my life and stand on my own. I love being my mother’s daughter, and it’s something I always will be, but now I get to be just Billie."
