Taylor Swift has had many bonus tracks throughout the years that should have made the album cuts. Her song “Wonderland” that appeared on the deluxe edition of 1989 is one of those tracks.
Once the album came out and everyone heard the glorious track, we all questioned why it didn’t make the album cut. We still don’t know to this day but we really wish it had. The song gives a story that sounds like it just came from an Alice in Wonderland film and even makes several allusions to the novel.
The track includes a memorable bass drop in the first chorus and explores Swift’s ability to produce a daydream of a track. She’s definitely produced daydream like tracks in the past, but “Wonderland” exceeds our expectations. It even reflects some similarities from her earlier songs that portray a picture perfect fairy tale. But, before we think that “Wonderland” is that kind of song, we have to remember that it’s not as it may seem.
A fairy tale isn’t picture perfect in “Wonderland”. In fact, Swift goes the opposite route. We pretend wonderland could last forever but it has to end at some point and it does. It’s a tragic story but relates to so many love stories today. It’s one of the best tracks of Swift’s career and we know it won’t be the last.
