Don’t get me wrong, BBC, I’m excited about the Doctor’s Daughter getting her own show but it’s also 6 seasons too late. We’ve been waiting.
The BBC seems to be making up for lost time by bringing women to the forefront of the Doctor Who programing. Case in point? Well, now the Doctor’s daughter is getting her own audio adventure series. That’s right. They’re finally bringing Jenny back to our Doctor Who adventures. Just years after we all asked for it.
Was it because the show was getting a lot of flack for how it was writing female characters? We don’t know but it sure is suspicious that all the sudden, Doctor Who is all about loving our female Time Lords.
Now here’s the thing: I’m not upset about it. I just think it’s odd that in the same week we found out that the next Doctor will be a woman, they also announce that the Doctor’s daughter is getting her own spin-off audio series.
Jenny, for those who don’t remember, was from way back in season 4. That’s right. We just finished season 10. So for 6 seasons, they never even mentioned her. But now she suddenly is getting her own series? Why?
Probably because now that the Doctor is a woman, they want to be all “lady power” over in Doctor Who land. And I’m into it, but it is about 6 seasons too late. You introduced the character and then abandoned her shortly after.
It’s just pretty suspicious that now, out of seemingly nowhere, they’re bringing her back. It looks like they’re trying to win back audiences since they lost some in recent years. Which, that’s fine. Just maybe don’t be so nail on the head, you know?
Next: The haters crying about a female Doctor on Doctor Who get the BBC treatment
It makes the BBC and Doctor Who as a whole look bad rather than empowering. So maybe, just maybe, listen to us fans when we ask for something? And don’t wait 6 seasons to give it to us either.
