Claire and Jamie (uselessly) try to move on in the Outlander S3 trailer

Claire and Frank go full-on Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? and Jamie is sent back to jail in the Outlander season 3 spot.

Poor Frank. He’s really the Joe Caputo of Outlander‘s universe: raising someone else’s child, loving his partner more than she can ever love him back, doing the right thing, and getting zero recognition for it. I feel for Frank, I really do.

But not enough to root for him and Claire as a couple.

The new trailer for Outlander‘s third season gives us a glimpse at Claire and Jamie’s lives after she goes through the standing stones and back to life in the 1940s. Claire—who rocks some truly phenomenal ’50s/’60s hairstyles throughout the trailer, by the way—returns to Frank and agrees to raise Jamie’s baby with him but her heart isn’t really in it. She and Frank are trying but there’s a distance between them as they try to ignore the 6’5″ red-headed Adonis in the room.

“You asked me to leave behind everything that truly mattered to me!” Claire shouts at Frank in the clip. “What is it that you want from me?”

“I want to know when you’re going to come back from the past,” he replies in frustration.

As you see, things aren’t great for Jamie, either. He survives the Battle of Culloden but the British army still finds a way to screw him over. No sooner does he arrive home to Lallybroch is he arrested by the redcoats and put back in jail. His sister Jenny cries when he is taken away, but she appears more guilty than sad or angry. Is it possible that she betrayed Jamie to the British?

More importantly, does Jamie have a new woman in his life? (I haven’t read Diana Gabaldon’s Voyager, on which season 3 is based, so forgive me if Lady with Longing Eyes is a well-known character.) Even though she and Jamie seem to know each other pretty well, she isn’t granted lines or a name in the trailer. Therefore, I choose to believe she doesn’t pose much of a threat to Claire.

Oh, and we get a glimpse of the print-shop scene, which is apparently very important. No spoilers for other non-readers, but I think it’s safe to say that that passage of Voyager is beloved for a reason. Frank and the mystery lady don’t stand a chance.

Season 3 of Outlander premieres September 10.
