Listening to the Harry Potter audiobooks is interesting.

The audiobooks for the Harry Potter series are pretty incredible but listening to them out of sequence makes you realize some important things.

The Harry Potter audiobooks are a staple to the generation who grew up loving this series. For me, I read them all myself but recently I went on a trip where my sister-in-law had Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire playing on her car stereo as we drove and I have to tell you, it is interesting to listen to this series out of context.

If you didn’t know, it takes like 4 chapters to cover the Quidditch World Cup. Meaning that the first 100 pages don’t even take place at Hogwarts. Now that probably doesn’t seem like too big a deal but it is when you realize how long those books are.

If you’re not even at Hogwarts yet, that means the TriWizard Tournament hasn’t even started. And believe me, I know, because I got back in the car days later and she was on chapter 22 and wasn’t that far into the book.

Maybe it’s just crazy to me to see it that way since I’m used to holding the book in my hand. When you have a book, it’s easy to see how far you have to go. On those audio tapes, you have no clue how much longer the story is.

With Harry Potter, that’s fine. We know just how these stories pan out but it does make you look into other audiobooks and wonder how it doesn’t drive people crazy not knowing how many pages remain.

Next: Neville Longbottom didn’t have the easiest life and we need to remember that
