10 of the dumbest things Luke Skywalker has ever said or done in a Star Wars film
By Buckie Wells
6. Luke doesn’t want to search his feelings
Which Star Wars film it happened in: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back
The scene where Luke finds out Darth Vader is his father carries a lot of tension. It’s a pivotal and iconic scene for the Star Wars franchise. Once you watch the film decades later and perhaps discover the truth for the first time, it’s really crazy. But then, after you’ve seen it a few dozen times, you basically just laugh through it. The Star Wars films are nothing if not emotional and infinitely enjoyable films.
Once you’re over that revelation, you can pretty much just enjoy watching Mark Hamill really give it his all in this shaft here. Luke’s lost his lightsaber, his hand, most of his dignity, and now, he hears that his father is 80 percent mechanical and 99 percent evil. So what does he do? Channel his best Grinch impression and deny the whole thing entirely.
“That’s impossible,” he yells. I’m not sure why it would be “impossible,” but I do know that his reaction is awfully similar to this, so it must run in the family. It’s truly a treat to behold and will remain so in the annals of Star Wars history forever.
Especially when you realize that he just bailed out of the conversation entirely by dropping himself down the shaft. Jeez, Luke. When words fail, just let go, I guess.
