1. Tosche Station
Which Star Wars film it happened in: Episode IV – A New Hope
This is one of Luke Skywalker’s most iconic moments, but only in hindsight. When you first watch the scene in A New Hope and you have no idea what’s in store for Luke Skywalker, it seems pretty reasonable for an 18-year-old farmboy on Tatooine. However, once you know he’s meant to save the galaxy, his comment seems so out of place.
Uncle Owen purchases C-3PO and R5-D4 from the Jawas, then tells his nephew to go clean them up. Insubordinate as ever, Luke replies, “But I was going into Tosche Station to pick up some power converters.”
No, Luke, you need to save the galaxy.
Everything seems so mundane when you compare it to flying an X-Wing and rescuing princesses. Could Luke see the future? No. But did he have to cry about Tosche Station like someone just told him to go to bed without getting dinner? Like, all he had to do was start stomping his feet, pout and cross his arms while he runs into the hut.
For comparison, when Rey saves BB-8 and they encounter Finn for the first time and hear about the Resistance, did Rey start crying and say she was going to make the best sandcastle Jakku has ever seen? No. She bypassed the compressor and buckled in.
Less lip next time, Lucas Starkiller! Less lip.
