It’s been a big week for late night talk show host Samantha Bee: her show Full Frontal earned seven Emmy nominations and she met a $1 million fundraising goal.
Today we’re tipping our hats to the one and only Samantha Bee. Bee has had quite a week, and quite a Thursday if you want to get specific. Yesterday, the TBS late night host earned seven Emmy nominations on the same day that her fundraising campaign hit its $1 million goal.
Bee’s talk show, Full Frontal with Samantha Bee, nabbed the Emmy nods for its super sharp online content as well as several for its April Not The White House Correspondents Dinner special. In addition to the show being recognized in the Outstanding Variety Talk Series (with Bee as the only female host in the category); the writing staff, directors, and online content creators were honored with nominations.
Notably, Bee and Stephen Colbert, who are both known for their more politically-charged styles, got plenty of Emmy love this week while other less political peers like Jimmy Fallon were left out of the running. A reflection of the times?
As far as Bee’s victory on the fundraising front, the host raised the million dollars in support of Planned Parenthood Advocacy Project Los Angeles by selling $25 Nasty Woman tees. One happy buyer? Former presidential candidate Hillary Clinton who posted a photo of herself with her tee on Twitter on Tuesday.
According to an interview with the New York Times, Bee and her staff celebrated the big week with champagne and pizza, the pillars of any good party.
