Get your wallets ready for D23 and the new Star Wars Elite Series figures
By Buckie Wells
With D23 happening this weekend, Star Wars fans may want to prepare their wallets for the new list of merchandise being unveiled. Let’s take a look!
“Toys” are a bit of a misnomer within the Star Wars fandom. It implies that Star Wars merchandise is expendable, meant to be handled by children, or that we’re alright with things being broken. But I’ve got one completed Millennium Falcon Lego set behind a Plexiglass case that says otherwise.
Of course, the more exclusive, the better. If the name of the game is value, then expos are the one-stop shop for all collectors. This year, at D23, Disney/Lucasfilm will unveil the new Elite Series figures (which are higher quality and sold in limited quantities).
Nerdist has the first look at what we can expect:
Instead of singular figures, the sets will come in pairs of heroines and villains. So if you pick up Rey and her new outift, you’ll also get Kylo Ren sans mask AND sans scar. Meanwhile, Hoth-Leia and her dad come in another set (Darth Vader will sell forever). Then, you have Director Krennic and Jyn Erso together in what looks like the perfect attire to reenact the Eadu scenes. I can’t wait for the elaborate diorama featuring real rain and the death of Galen Erso.
According to Nerdist, each set will “retail for $79.95 and are limited to just 1,000, with each set accompanied by a numbered certificate of authenticity.”
Plus, each figure has another set of hands, too. Remember, folks, it’s all fun and games until you open the box with several small choking hazards for pets and small children alike. But if you’re letting your figure stand around without a lightsaber or blaster, I question your display methods.

Obviously, anyone who heads to D23 will be able to get all three pairs of their removable hands on these figures first. But we all know that part of the fun when it comes to “toy” collecting is the hunt.
