Damon Salvatore – The Vampire Diaries

Damon is the salty, darker half of Mystic Falls’ dreamiest brother duo. He’s hard-partying and has a penchant for brown liquor, brunettes, and stirring up trouble. Ian Somerholder as Damon Salvatore is exactly my kind of guy.

When we first meet Damon, he’s meant to act as his saintly brother’s direct foil. For every selfless act Stefan performs, Damon is there to do something selfish and reckless. The brothers are meant to represent opposites, but as the series went on, it became clear Damon was evolving into far more than just the resident bad guy. He put the hero back into antihero while being the hunkiest supernatural guy around.

Some fans want to pin his “transformation”  on his love for Elena, their soulmate status, and blah blah blah. But mostly we get a closer look at Damon because he became a fan favorite and writers had to give us what we wanted. And what we wanted was more Damon. More Damon giving us that sexy smirk. More of Damon’s irresistible swagger. And definitely more of Damon being the world’s best boyfriend to Elena (who was the world’s most obnoxious girlfriend).

Even after Elena left Mystic Falls (and the Earthly plane, for that matter), Damon continues to be a mostly good guy, saving the town over and over. He never quite loses his edge, and he keeps viewers guessing about how he would handle any given situation. Maybe he would snap his enemies neck, or maybe he would just charm them into doing the right thing. You never really knew.
