The original voice of Mulan wants a cameo in the remake

Let’s get down to business…and get Ming-Na Wen in the live action Mulan. The actress has confirmed that she’s definitely on board with the idea.

With all of Disney’s upcoming live action revamps, it’s easy to lose track of what’s happening with each one. But we need to keep a close eye on Mulan now, since the original Mulan might actually be in it.

Ming-Na Wen, now known for her role on Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, lent her voice to the savior of China back in 1998. She then reprised the role of Mulan in the direct-to-video sequel a few years later. The character was groundbreaking – Mulan wasn’t a princess, she was a warrior. She didn’t even become a princess in the end.

With a live action remake of the animation on the way, Disney fans have been concerned about the potential casting of the film (followed closely by the music of it), hoping it wouldn’t fall victim to Hollywood “whitewashing.”

Of course, the ideal situation would be casting Wen as the film’s lead once again. Much to the delight of fans, Wen confirmed at Heroes & Villains fanfest in Nashville that it’s a possibility. When asked if she’d be interested in joining the film, or is in talks already, she replied very openly.

"“All of the above. I’m hoping. I mean, I’ve spoken to one of the producers on the film, and they’re still in the very early stages of it. So, we’re keeping an eye on it, and hopefully, yeah, It would be lovely too, I think, for the fans as well as for myself, right?”"

She went on to encourage fans to write to Disney on social media about the idea.

At this point, no one is really sure if the movie will include the hit songs of the original, but getting the original heroine cast, at least in a cameo, would be a good start.
