Star Wars Forces of Destiny episode 5: The Wampa strikes back!

In the second Princess Leia-centric episode of Forces of Destiny, Princess Leia, R2-D2, and Chewbacca have a run-in with a Wampa on the ice planet Hoth.

As ingenious and exciting as Star Wars can be, sometimes new content feels derivative of something we’ve seen before. So if you get a sense of deja vu while watching episode five of Forces of Destiny, don’t be surprised.

As soon as anyone mentions Wampa, all of our minds immediately flashback to Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back. The first act’s Hoth scenes took a slightly more gruesome turn than people might’ve been expecting, but luckily, “Beasts of Echo Base” stays away from any arm losses or Tauntaun slicing.

The animation for these 2-3 minute shorts remains pretty impeccable. It’s simple but very colorful, and this episode gave us one of Chewie’s best looks yet. I mean, he looks so cute, the Wampa wanted to use him as a snuggle partner. Though, it’s unsurprising to see R2-D2 save the day once again. (Of course, that’s after C-3PO opened his big mouth.)

Forces of Destiny plans to focus on females only, but we may need an R2-D2 series next. There are so many unanswered questions regarding the astromech droid. He happens to be one of the franchise’s most iconic characters, yet we don’t know that much about him. Plus, he’s been serving the Skywalkers for so long, I’m sure he has a wealth of secrets in his archives.

It wouldn’t need to be anything serious. Lucasfilm should just look into creating little shorts that detail his time on Alderaan or even Naboo. What was life like for Artoo before he became an integral part of Queen Amidala’s crew? Better yet, I want to know how Artoo felt about Anakin’s demise? He clearly feels more emotionally attached to the family, so I wouldn’t be surprised if he beeped a heartbroken cry as he watched Anakin turn to the Dark Side.

Next: Will Ahsoka Tano’s fate in Star Wars Rebels impact The Last Jedi?

Now I feel like Artoo would’ve felt compelled by loyalty to continue to serve under Darth Vader … get on it, Lucasfilm.
