Lorde and Taylor Swift recently faced rumors of a feud but according to the “Royals” singer, her recent statements to Australian talk show Sunshine were taken out of context.

In a new statement on Twitter, Lorde has set the record straight about her “I don’t hang out with these people” comment, revealing that she wasn’t referring to Swift and her squad but rather her idols, including Bowie and Patti Smith.

“Wow — something of a frustrating thing to have to address online but here we go. Taylor is a dear friend,” Lorde tweeted on July 7. “I lover her very much. In the interview in question I had just been talking about Bowie and Patti Smith — those were the ‘idols’ I was referring to that I was saying I’m not friends with, not Taylor!”

What does Lorde think of Taylor Swift’s ‘girl squad’?

“I’ve always found people’s perception of this ’squad’ idea frustrating in the past; it was never some exclusive club or secret society, but a wide circle of people, some of whom I know, and some who I’ve never met, like most wide groups of friends,” Lorde explained. “Forgive me for the mild eyeball I popped when it was brought up as if we’re all blood members of a secret cult.”

Taylor Swift supports Lorde’s career

In one of her few Instagram posts this year, Swift made a point to give her friend a shoutout and reveal her excitement in her track “Green Light.”

In the caption of a screenshot of the song playing on her phone, Swift wrote, “g2g brb just gonna make up an interpretive dance to this magnificent bop for the ages… ELLA I LOVE YOU.”
