9. Arthie “Beirut the Mad Bomber” Premkumar

Arthie “Beirut the Mad Bomber” Premkumar is an Indian woman who is very dedicated to her studies, but is also committed to embracing her character for GLOW. Although Beirut the Mad Bomber is steeped in dangerous misunderstanding of a culture she isn’t even part of, Arthie takes the character and challenges Sam and Bash on every decision made about her.

She challenges Bash labeling her as an Arab and argues with him about pinning her as a terrorist. Arthie challenges the fact that Bash and Sam want her to use a gun, challenges the fact that this character exists at all. She takes the things these insensitive white men say to her and twists them around to try to make it apparent how horrible they are being in developing these stereotypical characters for GLOW, though she is not as successful as she would probably like to be.

As such, Arthie is forced to embrace Beirut the Mad Bomber if she wants to remain on GLOW. In her non-wrestling scenes, Arthie is quiet and respectful but also loves watching wrestling. She seems thrilled to be a part of this show and pushes herself to do well. She also indulges Justine’s crush on the pizza boy and is very unassuming in her generosity, which is sweet.

Sunita Mani is wonderful as Arthie and does a lot with a character who has very little dedicated screen time. Her performance is a joy to watch.
