Wynonna Earp: 3 biggest WTF moments from ‘She Ain’t Right’

Wynonna Earp season 2 delivered its most exciting episode with “She Ain’t Right,” so let’s break down the three biggest moments of the night.

As a show, Wynonna Earp has mastered quite a few things, but one of its best tricks is going there. Of course, you can always find a hilarious one-liner or cool action scene, but the show isn’t afraid to put its foot on the gas and run a few red lights along the way. WayHaught? Went there. Sex jokes? Went there, didn’t look back, got a cream for it. Whether it’s because the show airs on Syfy or the audience is small but faithful, Wynonna Earp isn’t afraid to go all in. Kudos to the showrunner and everyone involved for being more dedicated to quality television than any other show on the air right now.

And “She Ain’t Right” went so far past anything anyone was expecting, my soul left my body about halfway through the episode and still hasn’t returned. I’m writing this as a ghost-turned-Revenant actually.

Even though we all knew the Gooverly secret was going to get out, no one expected the episode to end the way it did. We went from a saloon serenade to Doc finding a new hat to a twisted kiss that pretty much reset the entire season, so let’s go through three biggest surprises and relive some of the most shocking moments of Friday’s new episode:

Waverly loses (and grows back) her hand

As the Earpiest Earp of them all, Waverly tends to do things in earnest. She wants to help in any way she can. That’s what makes her so great.

This week, she decided to go undercover with Lucado to retrieve a stolen Black Badge case. To get the case back, Waverly sang. Yes, like sang, sang. She crooned, guys. In a tight dress and everything. She sang about girls and guns, but was ultimately captured by her target when Wynonna broke her cover.

The case in question had the initials EE embossed on the front, but nobody had any clue what was inside. To extort some answers, the Revenant who stole it cut Waverly’s hand off right in front of Wynonna.

In most cases, television shows like to fake out the audience and the hand is usually saved at the very last second. But Wynonna Earp didn’t hesitate. Not only did Waverly lose her hand, we saw it on the ground afterward. And she was left on the table in agony for at least another five minutes of the episode before Doc showed up. Like, I’m so glad Dominique Provost-Chalkley happens to be such a great actress, but she didn’t have to sell her mutilation so well.

Because she’s a part-time possessed drama queen, thankfully, her hand grew back. But that doesn’t mean we weren’t all freaking out for a few minutes there.

Dolls can breathe fire

Dolls’ eyes have been glowing since season one. Luckily, he carried around some special sauce that helped keep the glowing eyes and supernatural temper tantrums at bay. But after the entire debacle with Black Badge that earned him a spot on their most-wanted list, Dolls has been totally unjuiced for a while. And without his juice, there’s nothing stopping him from going “Dolls to the walls.”

In “She Ain’t Right,” Jeremy helped Doc and Rosita finish a cure for Dolls, who of course, just found his way back to the homestead. However, instead of administering it in small doses, Dolls juiced up way too quickly. He crossed over from unhappy lizard to fire-breathing badass and literally unleashed hell on the revenants holding Waverly and Wynonna hostage.

I mean, it didn’t even look like a cheap effect. It looked super legit and came out of nowhere, because that’s the thing about Dolls — we have no idea what he is or what he can do. We know he’s a threat to Black Badge. But what’s next? Is he going to grow wings soon? Even with a “cure,” if he no longer works for Black Badge, how do we know he’ll stay in his lane? #UnleashDragonDolls

The goo switches to a less resistant host

Trust me when I say that you have to write a really, really great protagonist for me to love that character over the canon LGBT character in any given show. Waverly’s tremendous, of course, I love her to pieces. But Wynonna has something a little bit different that just speaks to me. And apparently, it speaks to the super possessive goo that opted to relinquish its resistant and boring host Waverly in favor of her more fun, older sister, Wynonna.

That’s right. After Wynonna tried to tackle the Gooverly problem head on and sweetly offered to assist in any way possible, Waverly’s eyes went black and her inner demon explained how tiring it becomes to fight for control of Waverly’s body all the time. (And to regrow a hand, too.) When Wynonna drew her gun, Gooverly called her bluff and correctly guessed that Wynonna wouldn’t shoot another sister.

Then, they kissed. Yeah, it was weird for like a second. But as the demon passed between Waverly and onto Wynonna, we all collectively screamed at our televisions. It sucks because a) Wynonna’s just trying to do her damn job and doesn’t need yet another thing on her plate and b) she can’t wield the Peacemaker anymore. And Earp or no Earp, Waverly’s not old enough to use it either.

Which basically means Purgatory’s totally up the creek right as things are about to get super messy again.

Bonus: Tucker’s a beacon for evil

At the end of last week’s episode, the Ladies in Black entered the Gardner home and attacked Mercedes. This week, they completely took over the Gardner sisters, but it looks like their decision was influenced by brother Tucker.

Obviously, Tucker’s been a creep from the moment we met him. We all knew he was going to be a problem. Although, I didn’t guess that he’d have a pair of murderous demons at his disposal doing his bidding. He knows his sisters are gone, but that doesn’t even matter to him. Especially since the Ladies in Black asked him what he wanted and Tucker said he wanted a girl. Though he didn’t name anyone specifically, I think that can mean two different things: either he wants Waverly or he wants to teach Nicole a lesson.

Regardless, whoever gets trapped in his crosshairs next will be in some serious trouble.
