As “Transformers: The Last Knight” opens in movie theaters, an immersive single player VR game gives fans the chance to be in the Transformers world.

The Transformers franchise has legions of loyal fans. From the movies to toys to theme park rides, fans look for every opportunity to be part of the Transformers world. To celebrate the release of Transformers: The Last Knight, director Michael Bay partnered with ILMxLAB on a Transformers virtual reality experience that kicked off on Friday.

Available only in select New York and California theaters, the Transformers VR experience brings fans directly into the Transformers world. The five-minute immersive single player VR game has players step into the intense action. With a VR headset, players become members of the Autobots. The single shooter game has players fight the evil Decepticons. Quick reaction time, fast action and decisive thinking have players in the middle of the battle action.

As Michael Bay said in a statement:

"“I wanted to do something special for fans, to let them feel what it’s like to be in the middle of intense Transformers action,” commented Mr. Bay. “ILMxLAB was a great partner in delivering this experience, and pushing the envelope of what VR can do.”"

The Transformers virtual reality experience is a limited run. It is available “at the IMAX VR Centre across from The Grove in Los Angeles and at the IMAX VR Centre at AMC Kips Bay 15 in New York City, as well as AMC Theatres locations in New York City at the AMC 34th Street and AMC Lincoln Square 13 and at the AMC Orange 30 in Southern California.” The game is presented free of charge.

VR fans are going to love it

Virtual reality fan experiences like this one seem to be popping up around the country. Theme parks have been transforming popular rides into virtual reality rides. Most recently, Kraken Unleashed at SeaWorld Orlando transformed the coaster into a virtual reality ride. Using headsets, riders feel as they are immersed into an underwater world.

Virtual reality gives theme parks, family entertainment centers and production companies more entertainment options. Guests seek more immersive experiences. Organizations look to create lasting memories for their guests. By adding virtual reality experiences, both the guests and the organizations benefit.

As more and more companies expand the virtual reality technology, guests should expect bigger and bolder experiences. At the 2016 IAAPA, DreamCraft Attractions Ltd. showcased interactive virtual reality experiences. With their technology, riders can interact with each other in the virtual reality realm. On the ride, riders can look around and see fellow riders as everyone experiences the ride.
