Piper hooks up with the new girl Stella

Season 3 brings us one steamy new addition in inmate Stella Carlin, played by queer supermodel Ruby Rose. She is Piper’s new love interest, and integral in the panty operation. Stella’s presence throws a weird yet sexy wrench into the mix at Litchfield, even though ultimately she doesn’t amount to much as a character.

For most of season 3, Piper is still technically with Alex. Stella creates a more-than-bizarre love triangle with the two of them, but even though Alex notices palpable chemistry between them, she seems too wrapped up in potentially getting assassinated (namely by Lolly Whitehill, played by the brilliantly crazy Lori Petty) rather than figuring out what’s actually going on.

Ruby Rose made quite a splash in season 3. She popularized skin fades and undercuts on women, and her modelesque beauty is a pleasant contrast to her heavily inked body. As a straight woman I find her to be very attractive, probably because she is very masculine compared to Piper and Alex. Even though her presence on the show is pretty short-lived and doesn’t survive season 3, thanks to Piper turning on her, it sure was a welcome one.
