Amazon app users are able to catch the first glimpse at ‘Valerian’ right now

As the release of Luc Besson’s newest sci-fi feature, Valerian, approaches, Amazon allows their customers to access new clips from the movie with their app.

BusinessWire announced a couple days ago that Amazon is working with EuropaCorp and STXfilms to release “never-before-seen movie clips and content” of the highly anticipated film, Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets. These little glimpses are available to anyone who uses the Amazon app. I’m pretty sure this works with both Android and iPhone, but one particular sticker feature only works with iPhone.

Gautam Bhargava, vice president of Amazon Visual Search, had this to say regarding the new development:

"“Camera search within the Amazon App allows customers to point their camera at nearly anything and receive product recommendations from Amazon, so what better way to unlock exclusive content from the most futuristic film of the summer […] In fact, we were so excited about revealing this special content within our app we wanted to give customers not one, but two ways to view never before seen clips. We also created special edition VALERIAN stickers to celebrate the movie release, which if clicked upon will also grant customers access to the highly anticipated scenes.”"

So, in other words, if you happen upon any sort of Valerian imagery out in the world, take out your phone, open the Amazon app and capture it with the camera feature. I actually tried it myself, just on the Valerian IMDb page. First of all, I had actually never used the camera search feature of that app. Turns out, it’s actually pretty cool. Second, the app could read the image of the movie’s poster on my computer screen. Then, it presented me with a short clip. Obviously, this doesn’t to the visuals any justice via such a small thumbnail image. But you get the idea.

My only complaint thus far is that the clip contains footage already partially used for the previously-released teasers and trailers. Granted, everything available to watch of Valerian happens to be thus far so visually stunning, you could spend minutes picking apart a single minute with your eyes alone. However, not sure this clip contributed anything compelling in terms of the story.
