Gwyneth Paltrow confirmed to appear in Spider-Man: Homecoming

Spider-Man: Homecoming will get at least one thing right by letting the First Lady of the MCU appear in its film. That’s right, Gwyneth Paltrow’s back.

Let’s all go back to 2008. That was the year when Iron Man launched the MCU, before Jon Favreau was at the top (the first time around) and Robert Downey Jr. was just beginning to make the world’s greatest comeback. He starred alongside Terrence Howard, Jeff Bridges, and yes, Gwyneth Paltrow. Of course, the MCU eventually phased those three people out in one way or another, with the last being the most unfortunate departure because it was the most inexplicable.

As Robert Downey Jr. became the crux of the entire franchise and one of the most valuable actors in cinema, he began to appear in more and more MCU films. Because people recognized and love the man, he got to pop up anywhere. Though, Iron Man’s supposed love of his life never popped up with him, even though the storyline obviously could’ve used her.

So fast-forward to 2017.

The MCU has found a way to collaborate with Sony, a new Spider-Man is about to swing into theaters, and Gwyneth Paltrow’s finally back. While it seems like the MCU suffers from a major woman deficit, it’s at least nice to see them give respects to the woman who played the first major love interest in the film that started it all. And not only did she play Pepper Potts, the backbone of Stark Industries, but she was a damn good one.

According to the cast list of Spider-Man: Homecoming, Paltrow will appear in the film that opens on July 7. However, the nature of her role hasn’t been disclosed. Luckily, we won’t have to deal with Tony’s offhanded explanation about where she is this time like Captain America: Civil War.

Pepper Potts is Stark Industries, which is still a thing in the life of Tony Stark, who will be appearing in Homecoming. Also listed on the cast list is Jennifer Connelly as “Karen / Suit Lady,” which makes me think Pepper and “Karen” will be delivering the suit to Peter than skedaddling away. So while I’m excited, it’s probably best not to get your hopes up.
