Samus – Metroid: Samus Returns and (presumably) Metroid Prime 4
Nintendo may have had a short presentation in their Showcase, but they stole the show almost effortlessly just by dropping a title card for Metroid Prime 4. Now, we don’t know 100% for sure if Samus will be the heroine of Metroid Prime 4, but I submit: how the heck could she not be? Samus is the Metroid series, and her absence (or, rather, diminished role) was one of the many reasons why Metroid Prime Federation Force was so greatly disliked. We all lost our minds during the Nintendo presentation just at the thought of a new game starring her.
But we didn’t need to just run with the thought, because Nintendo is also bringing Samus back for certain with Metroid: Samus Returns, a retelling of Metroid II: Return of Samus. It’s a 2D sidescrolling platformer with 3D characters and gives Samus enhanced powers from the ones she had in the original title, such as the ability to fire freely 360 degrees in a circle around her, and a melee counter attack. Nintendo’s stated goal with Metroid: Samus Returns has been to improve on the original’s core concept rather than just make yet another 2D Metroid game, so Samus need not worry. She’s being brought back to life by some of the best platforming designers around.
