This just in: Taylor Swift is making every one of her albums available on all music streaming services tonight at midnight. These streaming services include Google Play, Spotify, and Amazon Music.
It has been three years since Swift pulled her music from the freemium music streaming source, Spotify. But, her team confirmed tonight (Thursday, June 8) that the move to make the singer’s catalog available to streaming services came in celebration of 1989 selliong 10 million copies worldwide and a100 million song certification with the RIAA.
The albums that will be made available will be 2012’s Red, the breakout album Fearless, Speak Now, 1989, and her debut self-titled, Taylor Swift. To say fans are excited is an understatement.
In 2014, Swift pulled her music from Spotify, claiming that it doesn’t compensate what the artist deserves. She defended her decision by saying, ” “All I can say is that music is changing so quickly, and the landscape of the music industry itself is changing so quickly, that everything new, like Spotify, all feels to me a bit like a grand experiment. I’m not willing to contribute my life’s work to an experiment that I don’t feel fairly compensates the writers, producers, artists, and creators of this music.”
We aren’t sure what changed Swift’s mind about Spotify and other streaming services, but we can say that Swifties are happy. You can listen to Swift’s entire music catalog on Spotify, and other streaming services at Midnight ET.
