Stephen Colbert makes an inevitable pun on The Late Show

After some time off, Stephen Colbert is back with new episodes this week, and last night’s involved some pantomiming and, of course, a pun or two.

The Late Show with Stephen Colbert might have taken some time off, but it looks like there are fresh guests this week. And, as news continues to come out, Colbert has plenty of room to make jokes.

Here’s the ending portion of Colbert’s monologue from last night.

Warning: contains one bleeped out word and a couple more safe-for-work references to the same bleeped-out word:

Let’s go in chronological order of the things Colbert references. NBC News has posted the interview Megyn Kelly did with Vladimir Putin, the president of the Russian Federation. That aired Sunday.

The story about Reince Priebus continuing to remain in his job at least partially because finding a replacement would be difficult comes from Politico. It appeared early Monday morning (5 a.m. Eastern time, according to the stamp at the headline).

Now we get to the puns. Colbert then talks about Tuesday morning’s biggest story, about a leak purportedly carried out by Reality Winner of an NSA document. CNN, which Colbert cites, has confirmed her arrest for it. His CBS News article states that that organization has “confirmed the authenticity” of said document. Finally, the Washington Post‘s story explains how a couple of different things were used to identify who may have done it.

But of course, there was a little humor in there as well. Colbert’s bit about a cat lady at a polling place opening an anti-aging cream forward got plenty of laughs. And he couldn’t resist a good reality pun.

Next: John Oliver on the Paris Agreement

According to CBS, today’s guests are Andy Cohen, Jordan Klepper, and Tilda Swinton. Presumably the latter will talk about Okja, the Netflix film she’s in that comes out later this month.

Stay tuned for more Colbert tonight.
