Travel Tuesday: Universal Orlando announced Fast & Furious – Supercharge opening Spring 2018

Universal Orlando expands its command on immersive thrill rides. Fast & Furious – Supercharge is slated to open in spring 2018.

2017 has been a momentous year for Universal Orlando. This year marked the opening of its third theme park Volcano Bay and the new Jimmy Fallon Race Through New York ride. Both Universal Orlando theme parks have been bustling with guests. The trend will continue into 2018 with the opening of Fast & Furious – Supercharge.

A recent visit Universal Studios Florida showed that the newest immersive theme park ride is moving forward. Located between The Mummy and Diagon Alley, this highly anticipated addition will hopefully bring high action adventure to the park. While ride schematics and renderings aren’t available, Universal announced recently that the thrill ride will open in spring 2018.

Fast and Furious is known for its high performance, fast cars. The theme park ride will incorporate the racing aspects fans see in the movie. But, the rides aren’t the only draw. The characters, an unlikely family, will guide riders through the raucous journey.

Universal Orlando released the following description of Fast & Furious – Supercharge:

"You’ll head inside Dom’s garage, where you’ll see memorable vehicles and locations from the films. You’re invited to join the team for some fun, but once an enemy from the past infiltrates your location, the plans quickly change. You’ll have to keep up with this unbreakable family as they help you escape from danger on this thrilling new ride."

Everyone can speculate which cars and locations from the movies will be used. Other Universal Orlando rides have a car-like experience. Transformers maneuvers riders through streets, up buildings and around a city. Spider-Man also uses similar storyline and experience.

Based on the description, this ride seems unlikely to be a larger scale roller coaster type ride. The Mummy and Gringotts have drops along the fast moving tracks. Based on the construction area, a simulator type ride seems more likely.

With the debut announcement, Universal Orlando stated that this ride will have a virtual line. The Race Through New York with Jimmy Fallon uses this technology. Guests book a time to return to ride. The reservation can be made either on the Universal app or at the ride entrance. With a virtual line, guests can experience more of the theme park instead of waiting in line.

Universal did not reveal any plans for an impressive ride queue, although it excels in that area. In the recently opening Jimmy Fallon ride, guests can play video games in the green room and see live performances by Ragtime Gals. The Skull Island Reign of Kong ride has scare actors and a creepy witch doctor. And, anyone who has walked through either of the Harry Potter rides can’t help but be memorized with the attention to every detail.

Fans of Fast & Furious will have to wait till next year for the ride debut. Until then, everyone can speculate on ride stories. Personally, I am thinking about all the movie stars who will come to the ride opening. Maybe the Rock can hold my hand so that I don’t get scared.
