Doctor Who season 10: “The Lie of the Land” trailer and synopsis

Season 10 of Doctor Who continues as Bill must attempt to save Twelve – and all of humanity – from the reign of the villainous Monks.

Last week’s episode of Doctor Who left us – and the entire human race, come to that – in a pretty bad spot. Though the Doctor got his sight back, it came at a terrible price. In order to save his life, Bill bartered the Earth for Twelve’s vision and handed humanity over to the Monks. And things are looking pretty grim in the resulting new reality.

This week, this three-part Monks story comes to an end with “The Lie of the Land’. And we’re really not sure what to expect from this final episode. The monsters have taken over the Earth. The Doctor seems to have become part of the problem. And it’s up to Bill to save the day.

Or, as the official BBC synopsis puts it:

"Earth has been invaded and Bill is living alone, an isolated figure surviving in occupied Britain. The Doctor is imprisoned and appears to be on the side of the enemy, flooding the airwaves with fake news. Bill and Nardole must embark on a deadly mission to rescue the Doctor and lead the resistance against the new regime, whatever the cost."

At least it’s good to get official confirmation that Nardole is apparently okay.

The synopsis over at Doctor Who TV frames the Monks a little bit differently, though. And it definitely sounds much more dire:

"The world is gripped by a mass delusion and only Bill Potts can see the truth. When even the Doctor is fighting on the wrong side, it’s up to Bill to convince the Time Lord that humanity is in deadly danger. And if she can’t do that, she may just have to kill her best friend…"

On the whole, it’s interesting that none of the episode descriptions mention the return of Missy. And this is despite the fact that Michelle Gomez features prominently in both the episode trailer and promotional photos. So, clearly her involvement isn’t exactly a surprise?
