Even if you don’t need a new makeup bag, Torrid’s new Princess Leia bag might very well swoop in to take over for your old one.
Normally, yours truly doesn’t really mind having a plain makeup bag. It’s cute enough for something you see every day, and it gets the very important job of holding things done. Then The Kessel Runway posted about Torrid’s new Princess Leia makeup bag.
It may have made me reconsider my acceptance of the current situation.
Here’s the bag:
One thing that I like in particular about this bag is the floral print itself. It’s not something so silly as putting a flower crown on Princess Leia’s head, since that trend seems to be somewhat passé. Instead, the soft colors and the shapes of the flowers give the bag a somewhat retro, ’70s and ’80s feel, which isn’t entirely out of place considering the recent Star Wars anniversary. They also lend a somewhat romantic feel, and as we all know, Leia ended up in an on-screen romance with one Han Solo. But, as the product description notes, the bottom is actually faux black leather, and that choice actually makes sense, too.
When I analyzed Leia’s first costume in the Star Wars franchise, the one she’s shown wearing on this bag, I noted that despite being in a dress, she had boots on underneath. At the time, I called them “boots that get things done.” This bag is pretty but also more than functional enough to get the job done.

“Don’t mess with a princess,” reads the bag, with the product description noting it is particularly unwise to mess with Leia. It’s a nice caption that has both the hard and soft ideas represented by this bag and, of course, Princess Leia herself. It’s available at Torrid now.
