New Spider-Man: Homecoming trailers bring the funny, more Vulture, and a parachute
By Buckie Wells
Spider-Man: Homecoming is going to be about high school Peter Parker and his fight against Vulture. But hey, at least he has Tony Stark and a parachute.
This July, Spider-Man’s fully fleshed out story swings into the Marvel Cinematic Universe where he’ll join the likes of his idols like Iron Man and Captain America. Of course, since this isn’t the first time we’ve seen Peter Parker on the big screen, it’s up to Sony and Marvel to play ball with each other and put their best foot forward. Obviously, Sony wants to keep the rights to the property (and Tom Holland in their studio, considering the Uncharted news) and Marvel likes to keep tallying off wins in the right column.
At this point, the more surprising news may be that Spider-Man: Homecoming isn’t the most anticipated summer film right now. No, that’s reserved for Wonder Woman. And for anyone not looking at this as a competition (sorry, but the studios are), rest easy knowing they open more than a month apart.
Perhaps to keep the spirit of competition alive and well, Marvel and Sony are putting together some of the best trailers to come out of the MCU. And more importantly, the Spider-Man: Homecoming trailers show a lot of range for the character.
Today, the studios unleashed two news ones: a regular stateside version and an international trailer.
The first one showcases the amount of tech included in Spider-Man’s suit. Thanks to Tony Stark, he’s got an AI (Marvel must be obsessed) and a parachute. I wonder where he can fit a whole parachute into the skin tight suit. Yes, we’ve seen that it expands. But how much? And is Peter’s tech going to be as cool as what Vulture and the Tinkerer whip up? Doubtful.

Meanwhile, the second trailer goes in an entirely different direction. Instead, it opens up with Peter Parker talking to … his phone. It’s confusing because I don’t know who his audience would be. Does he have a YouTube channel? If so, that would be a great marketing campaign for Sony. Or are these just video diaries for himself and the guy who is not Ganke?
Here’s the international trailer:
