Episode 2: Titus lemonades

Okay, “hold up,” everyone, and watch this really quick if you haven’t yet (and then go watch the full episode):

Titus returns from his cruise early only to find his boyfriend, Mikey, hanging out with another dude. Jealousy takes over, and on his way to bust out Mikey’s windows with a baseball bat, Titus dons full costume and does a parody/tribute of “Hold On” from Lemonade. And this isn’t a quick, one-verse, interruptable Titus gag. This is a full-blown parody music video that ends up taking up a good chunk of the episode, and is followed up with a second Lemonade moment later (that does get interrupted).

I just want to take a moment to absorb the wonderful level of detail that has gone into “Hold On,” setting aside the fact that the musical writing (so close to the actual song, but not quite there! Perfect!) is brilliant. They manage to stuff in all the little details from the original music video: the yellow fire hydrant, the pinata, the bystanders, the moment on the security camera.

And then there’s “Sorry” and “All Night,” which are also parodied later in the episode, with “All Night” wrapping everything up. Titus simply milks them all, though my favorite part of all three might be the ridiculous shenanigans Lillian is getting up to dancing in the background.
