Episode 12: Jacqueline rejects Russ

Jacqueline has been in a strange holding pattern for most of the season. Russ has been a convenient plot device to break her out of her recently-divorced slump of trying to find a rich husband, and for the first time since we’ve known her, Jacqueline was in love. It takes courage to deny the thing you’ve always wanted, as well as acknowledge that the person you once loved has changed (truly) beyond all recognition.  So Jacqueline at last taking her story into her own hands and ending things with the newly-transformed Russ marked what will hopefully be a brand new angle for her character going forward.

Admittedly, I’ll miss her haphazard parenting and complete ignorance of anything anyone else on the show is talking about. But Jacqueline from season 1 would never have happily exited the ocean next to Titus with new dreams in mind. Some part of Jacqueline from the first season was still there when she latched onto Russ, and is likely why their relationship worked. Now, with the life of a selfish gold-digger behind her (we hope), the sky’s the limit.

Now, of course, I’m wondering what sort of new trouble she can possibly get into. Jacqueline is, seemingly, out of conflicts! Will the life of an agent really suit her? Please don’t make Jacqueline boring.
