Unlikable TV Characters: We hate them because they really deserve it

Aria Montgomery – Pretty Little Liars
Aria is another one who thinks the world revolves around her. She’ll listen to her friends’ problems for all of 8 seconds before she’s constantly pivoting the conversation back to her. We get it, Aria. You got it bad.
But does she, really? How many of her “problems” are real, and how many are a direct result of the destructive choices she made? I don’t want to fall down the victim-blaming rabbit hole, but it seems she could streamline her life by eliminating Ezra from her life completely. Am I the only one who sees the problem with a high school student dating her teacher?
She’s also got a real problem with projection. Instead of listening and absorbing all the thoughtful advice from her parents and friends, she turns it around, pushing all her stuff onto everyone else. How about a little self-awareness instead of the incessant whining about what a victim she is? She exclusively relies on everyone else to all the dirty work, and then complains when it doesn’t go well. And it never, ever goes well, because this is Pretty Little Liars and nothing ever, ever works out on this show. That means that Aria is in a constant state of pout, and nobody likes a pouter.
