Disjointed – August 25
Starring: Kathy Bates and Tone Bell
Premise: Kathy Bates plays Ruth Whitefeather Feldman, a woman living in Los Angeles who wants to fulfill her dream of running a marijuana dispensary with her 20-something son and her deeply troubled security guard (Bell).
Because the premiere date is still months away, there’s not a lot of info about the show, and Netflix is keeping pretty tight lipped about it. The series has a 20 episode order and is written by Two and a Half Men creator, Chuck Lorre and David Javerbaum, formerly from The Daily Show. This is the dream team for comedy writing, so it looks like it’s shaping up to be something big for the end of summer.
The buzz: It’s limited. But Kathy Bates is an Oscar and Emmy winner, and Lorre really knows his way around a sitcom. This show is the latest push in Netflix’s efforts to bring more scripted comedy to the platform, and is part of the 5 billion dollar budget to do so. So… it’s got a lot riding on it. I trust Kathy Bates implicitly, mostly because of her work on American Horror Story, so I’m ready to go all in.
