Sharknado 5 – August 5
Starring: Ian Ziering and Tara Reid
Premise: Does it even really matter what this TV movie is about? It’s got flying sharks, space, Tara Reid’s chest, and Ian Ziering’s teeth. What more could you ask for?
We don’t really know much about the latest installment, aside from the obvious fact of sharks impaling themselves on various national monuments. Even SYFY is being coy about revealing the content. They write, “In Sharknado 5, with North America still reeling from the last disaster, the rest of the world braces for a global sharknado. Fin Shepard (Ziering) and his family must put a stop to the phenomenon before Earth is obliterated.”
It seems like there’s a lot more at stake in this one. But does it really even matter? We’re not watching the Sharknado movies for their character development, indictment of the human condition, or searing dialogue. It’s just plain fun. And if you’re a Twitter user, half the fun is following along with all the snarky remarks and Mystery Science Theater 3000-style commentary.
The buzz: It’s exactly what you would expect it to be. The first few movies were just fun, the more we get in this franchise, the more weary we become with it. However, we’ve invested far too much time in this ridiculousness to give up on it now. We’re committed to the bitter end.
There’s no official trailer for it yet, but feast your eyes on last year’s contribution, if you want to get the vibe and tone of the franchise.
