Summer watchlist: Watch the 25 hottest new shows of the season

Claws – June 11

Premise: TNT is calling this new show “a midnight-dark, wickedly funny meditation” on the nature of women, and that alone makes me want to watch it right now. It follows a group of nail technicians in Miami that are wrapped up in way more than acrylics and gel manis.

Most of the women are involved with a loser boyfriend, insistent on dragging their girlfriends down with them. Claws is the story of these women trying to get ahead by any means necessary.

That’s code for crime, for the uninitiated, and the women get themselves in one absurd shenangan after the next. It’s pretty light fare, with splashes of grit and teeth. It also looks pretty funny and worth a watch. It’s from the endearing and totally whip-smart Rashida Jones, so that’s a reason to watch, right there.

The buzz:  There’s not a lot of chatter on the internet about this new TNT show, but that is sure to change soon enough. This network is known for bringing frothy comedies to air, but since they’re a cable show they aren’t afraid to push the envelope little to make things interesting. I’m holding by breath to see if Claws will deliver like other TNT faves like Rizzoli and Isles, Franklin and Bash, and The Closer.
