Chuck Berry gets his first music video for new song Big Boys

Chuck Berry and his first single from his latest and last album has a music video—and it’s his first music video ever. It’s a fun throwback to the 1950s.

Well, Chuck Berry has a music video. It seems a strange phrase: “Chuck Berry’s first music video.” Right?

Well, maybe not. His music came about well before a time when such things weren’t really necessary. But you would think he would have had some in the 1980s, right? That’s a negative, too.

So it feels a little sad that his first music video for his first new release in over two decades comes after his passing. “Big Boys” was released as a single on March 21, three days after Berry passed away. And now we have a music video to go along with it.

Check it out below. Get in your rock and roll fix for the day:

Okay, so there’s nothing new or revolutionary about this music video. The song isn’t anything crazy either—very reminiscent of “Johnny B. Goode,” “Carol,” “Ain’t That Just Like A Woman,” kind of “Brown-Eyed Handsome Man” off the top of my head. (Maybe it’s just that he’s so known for that particular guitar riff).

But darn it if I don’t love how adorable this is with the little boy crashing the teenagers’ school dance. And it’s a dance party that looks like it might just be the Enchantment Under The Sea dance from Back to the Future. Perhaps that’s Marvin Berry standing in for Chuck? Or Marty McFly is up to some more time traveling shenanigans.

The choreographed dances also feel very reminiscent of the “Shake A Tail Feather” scene with Ray Charles in The Blues Brothers. Which also feels very fitting for a Chuck Berry music video. The “Reelin’ and Rockin’” sign above the stage ties everything together, too.
