Is Luke Cage airing its second season before Jessica Jones?

2018 looks to be a packed year for Marvel TV series on Netflix, but did Luke Cage star Mike Colter hint at a shift in the order?

With four (five, counting The Defenders) Netflix Originals on Marvel, it seems like it may be difficult to spread them out evenly, especially if the streaming provider wants to keep a fairly steady pace of new Marvel.

This past weekend, according to MCUExchange, Mike Colter, Luke Cage himself, had said that filming for the second season will begin as soon as next month. Here’s the kicker:

"“And hopefully, we’ll get to see Luke Cage out early next year.”"

At this point, it’s a little confusing. As our sister site, Netflix Life, has reported in the past, the current order, as far as they knew it at the time, was Jessica Jones‘ second season, followed by the third season of Daredevil in 2018. Additionally, Jessica Jones started work on its second season over a month ago, which seems like further confirmation that the Krysten Ritter series would come first after The Defenders premieres this August.

CBR reported, also back in April, that Daredevil season 3 would start work this year as well. So, assuming that Daredevil season 3 will start work later than next month, the order presumably comes out as Jessica JonesLuke Cage, and then Daredevil next year.

Of course, this could all change. Perhaps Colter knows something we don’t know. However, his use of “hopefully” suggests that he doesn’t know the true release date of the second season at this present time — or he can’t divulge much more than what he’d already said. MCUExchange speculates that Luke Cage could arrive between March and May of next year.

If Jessica Jones takes that slot, though, perhaps Luke Cage would then become the summer series, and Daredevil could take a fall release. (Where Iron Fist fits into this equation, we don’t know, but he’ll likely have to wait for his second season.)

Right now, though, waiting will be paramount. Netflix will divulge information on its own schedule.
