Riverdale season 2 goes dark: Camila Mendes teases a grittier return
By Sundi Rose
Riverdale season 2 will be much darker, according to Camilla Mendes. She seems to think Archie is going to get a grittier makeover.
[Note: Spoilers for season 1 of Riverdale follow!]
The season finale was a real heart-stopper, but it looks like Riverdale season 2 is going to get a lot darker. Camila Mendes, our very own Veronica, spoke at the Entertainment Weekly and People Upfronts Party this week, and gave us some dish about what season 2 will have in store for Archie.
As Riverdale fans well know, Archie is the vanilla ice cream on which all the other characters can add their sprinkles. He hasn’t had a whole lot to do, but Mendes seems to think that will all change come season 2.
Now that Archie will have to grapple with his dad Fred’s (possible) death he’s going to go through some major character changes. Thanks goodness.
Mendes says, “It’s going to unpack so many things in terms of the relationships for season 2 because Archie’s going to be going through this really traumatic experience and Veronica’s going to have to be there to help with that burden.”
Here’s what I heard: Veronica and Archie will still be together in season two.
She goes to to say, “I like that there’ll be a new darkness to Archie. I think it’s going to add a lot of edge to his character and some depth.” Mendes adds, “With things like Twitter, we can touch base and see what they like and what they don’t like. So I think going into season 2 we really know what people are interested in. Now that we’ve put it out there in the world, we can expand on it and go darker and deeper.”
Here’s what I heard: Archie is going to get interesting. Also, I should Tweet @Riverdale more.
