There’s a Hellboy reboot in the works with Stranger Things’ David Harbour

From sheriff Jim Hopper to Hellboy, Hellboy creator Mike Mignola announces a reboot of the film is in the works with David Harbour as the lead.
In 2004, Guillermo del Toro and Ron Perlman collaborated on a little comic book adaptation known as Hellboy. Though it never really connected with mainstream audiences, it remains a shining beacon of auteur filmmaking for many fans. Basically, Ron Perlman lent his conviction to the role as a cigar-biting demon while del Toro crafted it into something that transcended superhero films with its wit, charm and general eeriness often found in del Toro’s work.
The film also earned a sequel, but it didn’t work out as well and further projects were shelved. Del Toro even went as far as saying that Hellboy 3 was never going to happen.
However, as of Monday night, that’s not longer true now. Well, Hellboy 3 still isn’t happening, but a Hellboy reboot is, according to the series creator, Mike Mignola. He announced the news on his Facebook page and also included that this Hellboy reboot has some interesting talent attached.
Check it out:
Of course, fans will be upset that it looks like del Toro won’t be returning to the project. Neil Marshall, known primarily for The Descent, will direct. And while that may not seem like much, according to his IMDB page, he also directed two of Game of Thrones’ biggest episodes: “Blackwater” and “Watches on the Wall.”
Even more interesting, they’ve found a new Hellboy to take Ron Perlman’s place and that’s Stranger Things‘ David Harbour, who was overdue for a lead role in his own film more than a few years ago. I’d definitely say he’s got the right stuff and the amount of gruff to get into the role. But it’ll be interesting to see how Hellboy is portrayed “under new management,” if you will.
