The importance of Wonder Woman and what she means to little girls

If you are a girl, you probably looked up to Wonder Woman at some point or another and now she’s finally coming to the big screen for us all to love!

For a while it seemed like we were never going to get billboards for the Wonder Woman movie coming out June 2. I campaigned on Twitter, I wanted everyone to be talking about this movie. Why? Because we were finally seeing Diana Prince come to life in a way we never saw before.

When I was a kid, I was obsessed with Supergirl and Wonder Woman. They were two girls taking on the world and I thought that I could too. I wanted to be a warrior who fought alongside all the men without question.

So when they announced that Diana would have her own movie with my favorite actor playing Steve Trevor (the man who brings Diana Prince to the world of man), I was so excited. But then the advertising campaign for it was lacking compared to other superhero movies and I worried that the studio wanted it to fail to prove a point.

That was, until I was walking through Times Square in New York City yesterday and saw this:

I started crying on the street. I was so happy seeing her loom over us, protecting us. Diana, the warrior. She was getting her time on these huge billboards that I had seen every superhero take over. She was standing proud and I realized just how important this movie is.

It shows us that girls can do anything and that we are the hope in the world of man. So, to me, Wonder Woman is already one of the most important movies coming out this year.

Next: My weekend with Chris Pine…well, sort of. I saw Saturday Night Live

Please go and see Wonder Woman when it comes out. This movie is important and little girls need it.
